We celebrate the life of Nina, a source of strength to her family for all her years on Earth. She was born in Ulm, Germany during the time of people fleeing their country at the end of World War II. Her Parents Fedir and Anna Scherban sought freedom and on their way to Canada gave birth to her not unlike refugees today. They eventually came to Calgary to carve out a life for their family. Her father passed away leaving a thirteen year old girl who took on responsibility to be caregiver and translator for her mother and younger brother. Those formative years gave her strength of character to face any challenge with courage and fortitude.
She married Cyril Johnson in 1969 and in 1973 gave birth to their son Todd and the next year to another son Clifford. She is predeceased by both parents, her brother Oleg and survived by her husband, son Todd, Gabriela, their two children Arianna and Aiden and her son Clifford and wife Sarah. She also has her brother’s wife Vicki and their children and grand children remembering her at this time. Nina was a testament to the fact God does answer prayer for she recovered many times to outlive all prognosis in the thirty years since the first diagnosis.
Rejoice with us for she is now in the arms of her Creator, Father and Saviour Jesus Christ in Heaven with no more pain or sorrow for ever more.
