KOMIX, Nicholas Rudolph “Ron/Ronnie”
March 24, 1938 – May 12, 2018
Ron passed away at Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary, AB on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the age of 80 years. He was a member of the Calgary Police Service before transferring to the City of Calgary Roads Division. Ron was an avid athlete, playing basketball at Crescent Heights High School and Mount Royal College. He was quarterback for the Calgary Bronks Football Team, and then got very involved in fastball and then slo-pitch in senior men’s leagues. Ron won many awards over the years and developed a reputation for his high batting average. He was also a talented musician, who excelled at playing violin, mandolin and mandolin banjo. Ron is survived by his daughter Kerry Jo-Leigh Komix, nephew Stan (Norma) Kushner, nephew Jack (Brenda) Kushner and their families. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Olga and John Kushner and his parents, Alex and Mary Komix. A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4th Street NW, Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), Friday, May 25, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Lucas van Boeschoten officiating. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Canadian Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.ca. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
