Obituary Overview
Forever missed & always remembered
It is with great sadness that the family of Nettie Nolan announce her passing at her home in Amherst on October 30, 2018 at the age of 92.
Born on September 21, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Josiah Anderson and Mary Branscombe of Mt. Pisgah, NB. She is survived by her daughter Carol (Edward MacKay), Amherst and son Terry (Barb), Moncton, three granddaughters Michelle (Mark McIntyre), Amherst; Shawna (Rodger Vander Kwaak), Enfield; Rebecca (Jeff Orr), Halifax; sister Joan (Grover Doyle), Carsonville; six great grandsons Mathew (Stephen), Kenora, ON; Zachary (Carrie), Chilliwack, BC; Caleb (Falon), Moncton; Jonathan (Steffan), London, GB; Graham (Morgan) and Spencer, both of Halifax; special niece Karen Doyle of Carsonville, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents Nettie was predeceased by her husband, Heber Nolan, brothers Theodore, Everette, Frederick, Ira, Gordon and Gerald, sisters, Bertha, Myrtle, and Dora, step-mother Ethel Anderson, step-sisters Edna and Frances, and great granddaughter Lacey Drew Taylor.
Over the years Nettie worked as a St. John Ambulance worker, Red Cross Homemaker, at Playtex, and at Highland View Hospital from where she retired. She belonged to Monday night and Tuesday afternoon bowling leagues, the dart league, was a charter member of Showcase Productions and was a life member of the Golden Years and 50+ Club. She was a member of Trinity St. Stephen’s United Church. Nettie loved to travel, only beginning at the age of 50, with her first trip to England and Scotland. However, her favorite place to travel was to New York, with Showcase, which she visited over 20 times. Her adventurous spirit led her and her daughter to embark on a trip across Canada by train at the age of 84. She loved music of all types, especially Bluegrass. Nettie loved a challenge, getting her driver’s license at the age of 60 and taking piano lessons at the age of 75. In fact, Nettie had her very first birthday party in her life at the age of 80, which she celebrated with extended family and friends. She had a thirst for knowledge and was always open to new ideas and was an avid journal writer. She especially enjoyed her Monday’s at the Moncton Casino with Terry and kept a close tab on her winnings, especially her “free money”. The most important thing in her life though was her family. She was always there for them, encouraging them to follow their dreams; never judging or criticizing and was a forever optimist. She was a great influence on all our lives in her positive outlook and respect for every person she knew and we will dearly miss her.
Special thanks go out to the VON and Palliative Care Program of Amherst, as well as Dr. Rubio-Reyes for his caring and compassionate care of mom during her illness.
A celebration of Mom’s life will be held on Friday, November 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at Campbell’s Funeral Home, Church Street, Amherst, with Rev. Natasha Pearen officiating.
Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to Palliative Care, the VON, or a charity of your choice.
