Obituary of Nathan White
Nathan Thomas White, of Saskatoon, SK, formerly of Regina, SK, passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the age of 28 years. He is survived by his loving parents, Sheila and Terry White; his always adoring sisters, Alison (Janelle) White and Lisa (Scott) Werner; aunt Sally Taylor; uncle Robert (Barb) Coles; nieces, Drew and Brooke-Lynn Werner and nephews, Brandon, Daniel, and Seth Werner, through whom his spirit and impact will always live on.
Nathan was very much the baby of a close-knit family. Together they spent countless summers boating and fishing at Emma Lake, and camping across Saskatchewan and Alberta. They enjoyed unforgettable vacations in Cuba and on each of Canada’s east and west coasts. Nathan had a blast ATVing through the jungle on a special trip to Costa Rica with his mum, and loved his many ski trips through the Rocky Mountains with his dad. His granddad Robin loved watching Nathan play hockey as a child, and accompanied Nathan and his dad to adopt a Labrador retriever puppy, Oskar, when Nathan was 12 years old. Nathan gave Oskar, truly a man’s best friend, the best life a dog could’ve ever had. He excelled at anything he put his mind to, although much to his parents chagrin, that rarely included actual schoolwork. During Nathan’s high school years, he played trumpet with the South Saskatchewan Youth Orchestra and competed with the Regina Boxing Club. Into adulthood, Nathan practiced yoga and meditation, and enjoyed gardening, cycling, and spending time with family. In his early twenties, Nathan spent months travelling with friends throughout Southeast Asia, and traveled to France and Spain on a solo trip to cycle the routes of the greats. Every year, he was captivated by the Tour de France. Nathan, the boy who was always so fond of sleeping through class, went on to pursue a degree in education at the University of Saskatchewan and would have graduated this year.
Along with all the beautiful parts of Nathan’s brain, of which there were so many, it was also built in such a way that he would go on to develop a mental illness. Through all of this, Nathan worked harder than anyone could have ever asked of him to keep living the best he knew how. He was a loving brother, uncle, son, and friend to the end, but eventually he and all the love around him – love that was boundless – could not overcome his illness.
As the song Vincent goes, “This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you.”
Throughout his adult life, Nathan took pride in spending a great deal of time working as a Youth Mentor for Street Culture Project, an organization in Regina that aims “to empower vulnerable youth within the community… to be the change they wish to see within their own lives”. In lieu of flowers, family and friends may make donations, in memoriam, to www.streetcultureproject.org/donate
Memorial Service will take place at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.
