Myrtle “Myrt” (MacCready) MacNeil
1931-2018
Myrtle “Myrt” (MacCready) MacNeil – age 87,
of Wolfville, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2018 at Evergreen
Home for Special Care, surrounded by loving family and friends.
Daughter of Beulah (Manuel) and Archie MacCready, Myrt lived her
younger years in St. Stephen, N.B., then moved to Wolfville to attend
Acadia University where she met her campus sweetheart and devoted
husband, Conrad “Connie” MacNeil. Myrt and Connie
graduated in 1954, with teaching degrees, moving to Oxford, N.S.,
where they both taught high school, then to Pugwash N.S., until
returning to Wolfville in ’64, for the remainder of their 50
years together. Myrt and Connie were gifted with four children, two
grandsons, and two great-grandchildren. Myrt is survived by sister,
Sydney (Smith); daughter, Margie (Brad) MacIntosh; sons, David (Bev),
Phillip (Denise) and Andrew; grandsons, Dustin (Nicole) and Madison
(Brittney); great-grandson, Lane and great-granddaughter,
Brooke. Myrt was predeceased by her husband, Connie in May, 2013 and
also, by her brother, Phillip. Myrt was a stellar tap dancer in her
younger years, she enjoyed the arts and was involved in dance and
drama at Acadia, but also a hotshot basketball player in high school
and university. She was voted ‘Life Vice
President’ for her graduating class of ’54 at
Acadia, being involved in many alumni activities with husband, Connie
throughout their married years. Myrt was a talented seamstress,
enjoyed knitting, bowling, golf, bridge and piano. Myrt was a warm,
loving, ‘ever present’ and beautiful soul. We will
miss her smile, her humor, and her steadfast love for family and
friends. Our Myrt had an enduring strength throughout her 20 year
battle with Parkinson’s, and a devoted husband and children
who were her caregivers before she was placed at Evergreen in
December, 2015. Myrt’s family wishes to express their
heartfelt gratitude for the excellent care she received at Evergreen,
and the comfort it gave to all who loved her. There will be
no immediate visitation or service by request, as the family are
planning a private ceremony for the burial of both parents’
ashes in the Spring of 2019. Donations may be made to Evergreen Home
for Special Care, or to a Memorial Fund in Myrt MacNeil’s
name to Acadia University. Arrangements have been entrusted to White
Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
