With his family there to comfort him, Murray Powell finished this part of his journey at the Brantford General Hospital, on Sunday, September 30, 2018. He was 81 years of age. Beloved husband of Heather Powell (nee. Dalrymple). Cherished father of Beverley Powell (Jonathan Vinden), Jeff (Donna), Stephanie Nolson (Ken) and Timothy Powell-McBride. Cherished grandfather of Jacqueline Vinden, Nicholas Vinden, Chas Nolson, Naomi Nolson, Amma Nolson, Max McBride and Corbin McBride. Cherished brother of Ken (Pamela), Harvey (Betty), Don (Ginny) and Bob (Anne-Marie). Murray will be dearly missed by his extended family, many dear friends and former colleagues and students.
Murray was a teacher for over thirty years with the Grand Erie District School Board. He took an active interest in his community and served others through his connection with Grace Gospel Church in Paris. He sat on the Paris Community Police Services Board and was a current Brant County Councillor. Some of Murray’s notable accomplishments included his advocacy for the construction of the Brant County Twin-Pad Sports Complex, the conversion of the Syl Apps Arena and his 2018 induction into the Brant County Sports Hall of Fame. Murray was an active walker, whether at Syl Apps, or delivering his monthly newsletter of anecdotes and humour.
Friends will be welcomed at the DWAYNE D. BUDGELL Funeral Home Ltd., 1105 Rest Acres Road, on Tuesday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 1 p.m. Rev. Wayne Foster will officiate. Interment will follow in the Paris Cemetery. In Murray’s memory, donations to either Grace Gospel Church or the County of Brant Field of Continuing Dreams would be appreciated by the family.
