Emiko passed away on February 24, 2018 at Mission Creek Landing (formerly Sutherland Hills Rest Home) where she had lived since October of 2011. She was born on March 30, 1936 in Kelowna where she grew up with her four sisters and three brothers. She trained at the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops and became a maternity nurse. She worked in both Vancouver and Kelowna.
In 1971, Emiko married Cyril and they had two sons: Bruce and Kevin (Melanie) and three grandchildren: Terence, Isaak and Eva. She traveled to Hawaii, the United States and the Caribbean. Emiko was a Toast Mistress and a Hospice Volunteer. She enjoyed knitting, camping and going to church, as well as canvassing for Cancer Research for three years.
Emiko was a very kind soul who will be greatly missed by her family, including one remaining sister, Yuki Sakaki, numerous nieces and nephews as well as Cyril’s family.
Thank you to the Mission Creek Landing Staff for their excellent care of Emiko over the last seven years of her life.
