Mona Bernice (Manning) Benjamin
1929-2018
Mona Bernice (Manning) Benjamin – 89, of Randall Road,
Meadowview, Kings County, passed peacefully surrounded by her family
Saturday, December 29, 2018 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville.
Born in Meadowview, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Lillian
(Pearl) Manning. Mona was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great
grandmother. Before motherhood, Mona was a nurse in the
Children’s Tuberculosis Unit of the Nova Scotia Sanatorium.
She was also a member of Bethany Memorial Baptist Church, where she
was involved in the church choir, taught Explorers and was part of the
Singing Christmas Tree. In addition, she was a life member of the
Royal Canadian Legion Kings Branch No. 6 Ladies Auxiliary. Mona was
also a care giver for many community children. She took great pride in
being from Meadowview, a small community where she spent many of her
89 years. In particular, she enjoyed the many events held at the
Meadowview Community Centre including fun night, teas and especially
the weekly bingos with her lifelong friend, of 85 years, Lil Spencer.
Her gift of song, smiling face and gentle hands will be forever missed
by those fortunate enough to have been loved by her. She is survived
by two daughters, Lisa (Bill) Schofield and Sandra Benjamin, both of
Kentville; a grandson, Todd (Cindy); great grandson, Manning; special
niece, Heather Manning and chosen children, Susan (Schofield) Dodge
and Steven Schofield; several nieces and nephews. Mona was the last
surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her
husband, Eric “Tat” Benjamin; sisters, Lola Horner,
Lida MacDonald, Joan Young, Mary Perrott, Dorothy Kirkpatrick, Annie
Boylan, Frances Job and Rosie Maynard; brothers, Albert
“Shine”, Gordon “Dub”, Leland
“Herk” and Harold “Bud” Schofield.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2019 in
the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service
will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019. Burial will take
place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. A reception
will follow in the Meadowview Community Centre. Donations in memory
may be made to the Meadowview Community Centre. Funeral arrangements
have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation
Services, Kentville.
