Mme Ruth STEVENS Corbett 1933

Mme Ruth STEVENS Corbett 1933 • 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Naomi Stevens, at the age of 84, after a long illness. Beloved wife of Gerry Stevens, with whom she shared 58 years of loving marriage. Loving mother to Jamie (Cheryl Roscoe), Beverley, and Sandra (Paul Reiner), and caring grandmother to Gemma and Dexter Stevens. She will also be greatly missed by her brother Jack, and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Ruth was born in Toronto, one of seven siblings. She met Gerry while on vacation in Bermuda. After they married, they moved to Montreal, settling in Lachine. A member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church for over 50 years, Ruth had an active role in many activities including Meals on Wheels, the Bazaar, the Sunday school children’s nursery, and was past president of the Churchwoman’s Year. Unfailingly polite and ready to lend a hand, she was also involved in her children’s schools, especially the library at Lachine High School, where she eventually assumed the role of librarian for a year. After retirement, Ruth and Gerry enjoyed travelling in England, Europe and Newfoundland. In later years, Ruth kept active in a seniors bowling league.
The family will receive condolences at the J.J. Cardinal Funeral Home, 560 Lakeshore Drive in Dorval, on Saturday January 6.
Visitation from 1:30 to 4:00 pm, followed by a service in the chapel of J.J. Cardinal Funeral Home.
