Michael Joel Gidney
June 14, 1950 – February 2, 2018
GIDNEY, Michael Joel ~ Age 67. It is with deep sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Michael Joel Gidney on Friday, February 2, 2018. Michael was the son of the late Clifton and Elsie (Denton) Gidney of Little River on Digby Neck. Michael began his fishing career at a very young age. Over the years he fished in many capacities for different species, the last being lobster and he captained several boats. Being a fisherman, Michael was always concerned about the weather and made his “rounds” early in the mornings to several coves in the area to, as he put it, “look at the weather”. He was forever checking it on the computer and never missed the forecast on tv. Along with his beautiful smile and laugh, Michael was known to have a quick temper, but a very soft heart; being kind, considerate, generous and helpful to anyone in need. He could fix just about anything and was known in the community for his “Gidney rigs” that somehow always worked! He absolutely loved his home in Little River and when away, could hardly wait to get back home. He took pride in the on-going and never ending renovations being done to their home. Michael especially enjoyed visiting different fishing communities, where he always went to the wharf to look at the boats and talk to other fishermen. He was an expert at cooking fish, chowders, seafood lasagna and steak. He also loved beach combing and beach glassing. Michael dearly loved his family and looked forward to their visits, He was very proud to be called a “Digby Necker.” He is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Carolyn (Moore, Crosby) Gidney; children Joel (Dana Titus) Gidney of Grande Prairie,AB; Jamie (Chris Aubey) Gidney of Seabrook and their mother Linda (Dale Amero) Gidney; twins Michael (Vicky) Gidney of Landsdowne and Amanda Gidney of Enfield and their mother Arlene Drew; step-children Todd (Stephanie) Crosby of Grand Prairie; Nick Crosby and Holly Dove, both of New Westminster, BC; grandchildren Trisdyn, Troy, Chandler, Sawyer and Mason; step-grandchildren Allie, Damian, Ethan, Hannah and Cobie; sisters Deanna (Edgar) Frost of Little River, Doreen Trask of New Minas, Deborah (Wayne) Coleman of Eastern Passage, Joanne (Doug) Brown and Suzanne Gidney all of Digby; brothers David (Joan) Gidney of Little River and Dennis (Sheila Mae) Gidney of Toronto, ON; special nephews Mark, Kevin, Travis, Clifton, Dwayne, Raymond and many more nieces and nephews too numerous to mention and also special friend Curtis. Besides his parents, Michael was predeceased by his brother Larry and nephew Kelly. In keeping with Michael’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations in Michael’s memory may be made to Hillcrest Cemetery, Little River or Sandy Cove Fire Hall, Sandy Cove. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting:
