Michael Fanning passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the age of 91 years. Michael was born on October 28, 1926 in Vancouver Island, BC. His parents and the four children moved back to England in the early 1930’s after business failures during the depression. Michael finished his schooling at Belmont Abbey, Herefordshire, England. He then began his apprenticeship in the flour milling industry in which he worked until retirement. Michael worked in England, Australia, the United States, Canada, and Belize Central America until his retirement in 1989. He is survived by his wife Paula and son Robert of Canada and eight nieces and nephews in the United Kingdom and New Zealand. Michael is predeceased by his parents Walter and Esme Fanning, his two sisters Barbara and Teresa, and his brother Tim. Michael volunteered as a cub and scout leader in Scouts Canada through the mid 1970’s until the early 1980’s. He enjoyed working at Heritage Park on a part-time basis in the 1990’s, first the wind powered flour mill, and then in the grain elevator, and finally in the Hudson’s Bay fur trading station. By the grace of the Most Holy Trinity, Michael remained a life long Roman Catholic. Michael received the final sacrament of anointing of the sick and Holy Communion before he passed away on December 28, 2017. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church (5340, 4 Street SW) on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 7:00 pm. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church (5340, 4 Street SW) on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 11:00 am in the extraordinary form.
