It is with great sadness that we the family of Maurice Graham Kennedy, age 67 of Dominion announce his passing on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Maurice lived most of his life in Dominion and was well known throughout the community, mostly by his nickname “Pope”.
He loved to be out and about and socializing. Maurice loved to dance and was a graceful skater as well. Maurice was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan.
He worked for many years at the former Radar Base CFS Sydney and finished his career at CFB Greenwood. Maurice retired with his wife Karen and returned to Dominion where he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was also active with the St. Vincent De Paul Society, Immaculate Conception Parish.
He was predeceased by his mother, Emmeline MacNeil (nee Graham)/ Kennedy, his father, Joe Kennedy and his sister, Barbara Hall.
Maurice is survived by his wife of 25 years, Karen (nee Lipton), his dad, “Da” Greg MacNeil, brother, Neil Kennedy (Bernadine), brother in law, Ed Hall, sister, Monica McNeil (Michael), brother, Mike Kennedy (Loraine), sister, Debbie Parlee, brother, Allan MacNeil as well as many nieces nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
The family would like to express its thanks to the nurses and doctors of both Glace Bay Community Hospital and the palliative care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital , Sydney for their kindness and care.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport followed by interment in the parish cemetery. The reception will follow in the church hall. Fr. Dan Boudreau officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay.Donations may be made to Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
