OBITUARY
Maureen Grace Landry
March 17, 1955 – September 24, 2018
Maureen Grace Duncalfe was born at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg on March 17, 1955, St. Patrick’s Day. She was the third daughter of Lester and Grace.
She enjoyed a happy childhood growing up in Winnipeg, then in Red Lake, Ontario and eventually Balmertown.
After high school, Maureen worked as an accountant at two lumber companies and the Red Lake Board if Education. Her job at Bishop and Bishop as a legal assistant and accountant was the most challenging and interesting.
In 2006, Maureen returned to Winnipeg to start her new life. She loved the city which offered many new opportunities for her creative outlets. She was finally able to enjoy social activities, her love of fine food, concerts, shopping and even as a Life Member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
In 2012 Maureen met Gary Slipec. They married in 2015 and Maureen now had a partner who shared her sense of humor, interests in travelling, live entertainment and dining, as she shared his love of the Bombers and with Gary’s help, an understanding of the game.
In 2014, her son Joel presented her with her grandson “Little Joel”. She immediately fell in love with him. She was thrilled to finally be a Nana. Both she and Gary did a great job as grandparents, spoiling him as much as they could.
She was also Nana to Lucas and most recently Ethan, two more treasures to add to her family.
Maureen loved her family and friends and didn’t want to leave us. She fought many battles in her short life, she was strong and determined. She tried with every fiber of her being to beat this illness so she could say. Many times she wanted to give up but didn’t. In the end she realized she had lost the fight of her life, and placed herself in God’s hands.
She loved and was loved and will forever be with us. She would want us all to watch for signs that she is here.
Surviving Maureen are husband Gary, son Joel (Jie), grandson Joel, sisters Cheryl Yakiwchuk, Dale Untucht,. Loving remembered by her uncles Lyle and Delbert Duncalfe, Aunts Beatrice Duncalfe, and Ione Asselstine and many cousins.
Also surviving are Gary’s children – Jonathon. (Christina) (Ethan) Slipec and Donna (Kyle) (Lucas) Oige.
In her memory donations may be made to Variety the Children’s charity at www.varietymanitoba.com.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Monday, October 1, 2018 at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg.
