Obituary of Matilda Gordon
January 9, 1923 – February 26, 2018
Matilda, (Tilly) Gordon passed away on February 26, 2018 at the age of 95 years. Tilly was born in Swallwell , Alberta of Mennonite parents. She was one of 12 children. She was married to Irvin Victor Macklin for 39 years, and raised 4 children: Irvin Macklin, Arthur (Donna) Macklin, Ann (Bill) Pearson, and Carmen Macklin. After Irvin Victor passed away she was married to Elvin Gordon for 27 years. She is survived by 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 2 sisters, Ella (Jim) Duncan and Mabel (Barney) Gunter. Matilda was predeceased by her two husbands, 1 grandchild (Wade Macklin), her parents Peter and Katharine Jantz, her brothers Simon (Kay) Jantz, Leonard (Tina) Jantz, John Jantz, Sam (Mabel) Jantz, and her sisters Martha (Earl) Jobson, Agnes (Aubrey) Gunter, Kathleen (Bert) Benson, Anna (Bill) Purves and Mary Jantz.
Matilda lived a long and healthy life as a homemaker, dedicated to her family. She loved her garden and shared it’s produce and she had a strong Christian faith. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, March 8th at St. Paul’s United Church 10206-100 Avenue,Grande Prairie at 1:30 p.m. Internment at the Grande Prairie Cemetery. Reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Grande Prairie Hospital Foundation, 10409 98 Street, Grande Prairie, AB T8V 2E8
