Mate Spehar 2018

OBITUARY
Mate Spehar
February 23, 1956 – November 7, 2018
On November 7, 2018 at St Peter’s Hospital, surrounded by family, Mate Spehar’s journey with cancer peacefully ended. Beloved husband to Milka (Bartolac) for 43 years and an inspiration to his children: Mariann (Niko), Kristine (Mark) and Matthew. Cherished Deda of Olivia and Dominik. Loved son of Ana and the late Stjepan. Loving brother to Ivan (Zeljka) and uncle to Ivana and Steven. Sadly missed by kumovi, relatives and friends in Canada and Croatia.
As Mate (often) said, he arrived in Canada from Croatia when he was 17 years old; alone and with nothing but a suitcase. He worked at Fearmans Pork for 45 years and built a wonderful life in Hamilton. He loved hunting, being up north along the French River and was an avid gardener. Special thanks to St. Peter’s and Juravinski Hospitals for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be held at MARKEY DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King St East (at Kenilworth), Hamilton, on Sunday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm with Prayers at 7:15pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1883 King St East, Hamilton on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 9:30am. Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery. Anyone wishing to make an expression of sympathy, are asked to consider the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre Foundation or a cancer charity of your choice.
