Obituary for Mary Toenders
Peacefully with friends and family by her side on Friday, October 12, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Sarnia, Mary Anna Celerina Toenders (nee VandenElzen) passed away in her 88th year. Beloved wife of the late Henry (2001). Loving mother to Ben (Wendy) Toenders of Winnipeg MB, Connie (Brian) Mitchell of London ON, Ellen Woolf of Faversham, England, and Rose (the late Michael Duncan) Toenders of Sechelt BC. Proud Oma to Garrett (Carly) Toenders, Derek Duncan, Mary and Carmen Woolf. Dear sister to Corrie (Leo), Toos (Koos), and Annie (Piet). Predeceased by her parents Anthony and Cornelia VandenElzen and her brothers Joe, Crist, Tien and Harry. Mary will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins in Holland. Mary’s family would like to thank all of her dear friends, Toni, Joan, Zephie, Anna and many many others from the CWL and St. Philip’s Parish, for their love, kindness and companionship to their mother over the years. The family would also like to thank the Oncology department staff at Bluewater Health, Sarnia and St. Joseph’s Hospice, and Dr. Susan Mather for their outstanding care for Mary over these many years. Visitors will be received by the family from 7-9:00 p.m. on Thursday with prayers at 6:30 at the Wyoming Chapel of Needham-Jay Funeral Home, 650 Broadway St. Wyoming. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Philip’s Parish, 415 King St. Petrolia. Interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wyoming. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice (www.stjosephshospice.ca) or any Cancer organization of your choice.
