Mary’s Obituary
BEST, Mary Isabel ~ age 69, of Middleton, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 10, 2018 in the Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre, Middleton after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in 1949 in Middleton, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Lavinia (Reid) Bishop. She was raised in Clarence and attended Nursing School in Halifax, where she studied to become a Registered Nurse. She met John on her family’s dairy farm and they soon started a relationship. After marriage they settled in Brooklyn, Annapolis County, where they started their own family. Mary worked part-time for the first few years of their children’s lives so she could be home with them as much as possible. She was an avid sewer, gardener and an amazing baker. She loved her children and her grandchildren dearly, as they were the light of her life. Mary was a friendly, loving and generous woman who would do anything for anyone. She dedicated her life working as a Registered Nurse at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital for over 30 years. Mary was also a past Worthy Matron of the Evangeline Chapter, Order of The Eastern Star. Everyone who knew Mary loved her kind heart and spirit and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Mary is survived by her husband, John; daughters, Susan (Thomas John Schaefer) Best, Milford, Maine and her children Lauren, Ethan and Christian Tardy; Jennifer (Corey) Everett, St. Louis, Missouri and their children Jackson and Katie Everett; son, Trevor (Krista) Best, Torbrook Mines and their children, Amelia and Alexander Best; sisters, Lillian (George) Sutherland, New Glasgow; Evelyn “Evvie” (Edward) Hicks, Ottawa, ON; brothers, William “Bill” (Roberta MacIntyre) Bishop, Sydney, NS; David (Sonia) Bishop, Nictaux West; Edgar (Heather) Bishop, Clarence and John Bishop, Ottawa, ON. In keeping with Mary’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, December 15th in the Middleton Baptist Church, with Rev. Danny Smith officiating. The family asks you to join them after her service, at a reception in the church hall to celebrate her life by sharing warm memories of her life’s legacy. The family would like to extend their appreciation and a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Heart of the Valley for all their dedication and love shown to Mary while she was a resident there.
