Mary Christina Wiber

August 7, 1921-June 19, 2018
We are sad to announce that Mary passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the age of 96.
She is survived by her son Bruce Wiber (Rebecca) and daughter Marnie Ward (Gerald), her three grandchildren Darren Ward (Sarah), Carissa Ward and Davis Wiber and her great grandson Lincoln Ward. Mary was predeceased by her husband Bert and her brother Harry.
Mary was born in Blairmore, Alberta and grew up in Michel, BC. She was active in sports and loved to run in the mountains. After high school, Mom attended secretarial school in Calgary, met Bert and they were married in April 1943. They moved their young family to Edmonton in 1950 and were actively involved in the development of the Parkallen Community League. Mom was a regular volunteer at Rio Terrace Elementary and for twenty years she volunteered weekly at the gift shop at the Walter C. MacKenzie Hospital.
Mary and Bert had a large group of friends that they travelled and socialized with. They played many card games and they loved to dance, it was a joy to watch! Mom had her bridge club ladies that she played with forever and she was a recipient of many 5 pin bowling trophies.
Mary was well known for her very vocal support of her kids and grandkids at their sporting events. She was a long term season ticket holder and supporter of the Edmonton Eskimos and the Oilers.
In later years, Mom’s dementia slowed her down but she continued to walk the halls and socialize with staff and residents. She loved music and sang along to any entertainment provided, she knew all the words!
We wish to offer our heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Dr. Gerald Zetter Care Center and Touchmark Community. These folks provided wonderful care for our mother in her final years…their kindnesses and compassion is very much appreciated!
As per Mary’s wishes, there will be a private family celebration of her life. If desired, donations could be made to a charity of your choice.
