Obituary of Martin Laackman
LAACKMAN – Martin (Marty) Klaus Hans, July 21, 1966 – Dec. 15, 2017
It is with the utmost sadness that we announce the passing of our precious son, Marty, on Friday, December 15, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton, Celebrating his victory over death are we, his loving parents, Pat and Klaus, his beloved sisters: Heide and her children, Jace Chowhan and his fiancée, Katie Sawyer, Taylor Chowhan and his special friend, Rylie Glogovic, and Catriena Chowhan; Linda and her husband, John and their son, Wyatt (“Champ”). Marty is joining his late grandparents, Beatrice Hayes, and Hans and Else Laackman. Also mourning his passing and rejoicing in his freedom from pain are Dave and Sharon Laackman and their family, Chris, Mark, Tracey and her husband Kirk Herriman and their sons, D.J. and Nick. He will be missed by aunts, uncles and cousins, several close relatives and lifelong friends. Though the events preceding his passing seemed insurmountable, Marty and we, his family, never gave up hope that his life would be better. After having given it the good fight, he ultimately decided that he had finished his journey on earth. Marty’s outstanding willpower, stamina, courage, fortitude and patience in the face of seemingly endless debilitating health crises, will be etched in our memories as an example of what it is to be a true child of God. We, his family, were and forever will be awed by his incomprehensible ability to face each new challenge these last three and a half years without complaint and still treat others with respect, dignity and gratitude. The Laackman family extends heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the staff of Hamilton Health Sciences, specifically at St. Joseph’s and Hamilton General, for all the care, support and compassion extended to Marty. There will be no service. Friends and family are invited to join in our celebration of Marty’s life at McCLEISTER FUNERAL HOME, 495 Park Road N. Brantford, on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 1 – 4 p.m. Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy, donations in Marty’s memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, St. Joseph’s Nephrology Department or a charity of your choice. Condolences can also be expressed at www.mccleisterfuneralhome.ca .
