OBITUARY
Marjorie Waldie
September 28, 1927 – July 13, 2018
Marjorie Weir was born in Birkenhead, England in 1927. Her father died when she was 19 years old, and she went out to work to support her Mother and three younger siblings Margaret, Ethel and Alan. She married John Henry Pownall in 1949, and along with her husband and two children Lyn and David, she immigrated to Lauder Lake, Ontario, Canada in 1957. Marjorie and family relocated to Trail, BC in 1962 and there had a third child, Angela, shortly before her husband died in 1968. Once again the sole breadwinner, Marjorie worked in the area of clerical administration to support her family. She moved to Comox, BC in 1976 and re-married Allan Richardson Waldie in Victoria, BC in 1986. Along with her husband Allan, Marjorie relocated to Brentwood Bay in 1990, and from there moved to Sidney where they lived together until Allan died in June of 2011. Marjorie remained in Sidney, BC and passed away peacefully as a beloved resident of Rest Haven Lodge.
Marjorie was always a very sociable person, who enjoyed people and liked to be helpful. She was always a true and loyal friend making time to fit in visits whenever and wherever she could. She welcomed everyone into her home with love and there was always a cup of tea waiting. Marjorie loved the art of card and letter writing and always checked up on everyone by phone. Marjorie has been hard-working all of her life and is used to having the role of caregiver. Raised an Anglican, Marjorie had attended United Church services irregularly. However, she recently returned to prayer and was looking forward to attending Church services again. Although she did not sing, Marjorie enjoyed listening to music, and she loved the company of animals. One of Marjorie’s dearest passions was to drive her vehicles. Later in life she took great pleasure in being taken out for a drive. Above all, Marjorie’s greatest passion was her family. She loved them deeply. Marjorie was the guiding light in their lives and she was a touch stone for all of them.
In addition to her husbands John and Allan, she was predeceased by her two sisters Margaret (UK) and Ethel (UK).
Marjorie will be lovingly remembered by her brother; Alan Weir (UK) and his family; her children and their families; daughter Lyn Blenkinsop (nee Pownall) (Victoria BC), husband Geoffrey, grandchildren Hilary (Tyson) and Amy (Jason); son David Pownall (Grand Forks BC), wife Deb, grandchildren Jodi (Erik), Danielle (Mike), Michelle (Peter), Rhiannon, DJ (Leah), Roxanne (Jon); daughter Angela Walker (nee: Pownall) (Cumberland BC), husband David, grandchildren Andrew, Brodie (Mandy), Kory (Amber) and Troy (Kim).
