Marjorie’s Obituary
Whitman, Marjorie Irene ~ 100, of Lawrencetown, Annapolis County passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Thursday, September 6, 2018 in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. Born in Medford, Kings County in 1917, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Alice (Parrish) Bennett. Marjorie was a very active member in her community. She was a member of the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church through the senior ladies auxiliary, as a Sunday school teacher, and as a Mission Band Leader. She was a Charter member of the Lawrencetown Fire Department ladies auxiliary. She was a member of the New Horizons Club and a long-time member of the Rebekah Lodge starting with the Valley Rose #126 where she held many offices. She was awarded the Decoration of Chivalry by the Department Council of the Atlantic Provinces of Canada, which is the highest decoration in the Independent Order of Oddfellows that a Rebekah can receive. Marjorie cooked for several years at the former Lawrencetown Fire Department Restaurant and also delivered Meals on Wheels throughout the community. Marjorie was fittingly awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award which was presented to her by the Lieutenant Governor in Halifax. Living life to the fullest for the past 100 years, Marjorie was the last surviving member of immediate family. Surviving is her daughter Joan Steadman-Osmond (Clyde), Lawrencetown; grandchildren Randy (Leanne) Steadman, Upper Cornwall, Lun. Co.; Sandy (Roy) Banks, Kingston; Teresa Steadman (Mario Leonard), Cold Lake, AB; Tanya Steadman-Arnburg (Wayne), Kentville; Brenda Gillis (Jerry Hiscoe), Cow Bay; Gail Blair, Bridgewater; Steven (Cyndy) White, Belleville, ON; Sandra (Joey) Nickerson, Clark’s Harbour; Sherry Boutilier (Chris Leonard), Dartmouth; Crystal White, Halifax; Cynthia Potter (Blair Power), Kingston; 18 great grandchildren; several great great/great great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Allister; daughters Shirley and Gladys; sister, Hattie; brothers Lawrence, George, Freeman, and Charles. There will be a St. Eudora Rebekah Lodge #46 service held 6:30pm Sunday, September 9, 2018 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902)825-3448 followed by visitation until 8:30pm. Funeral service will be held 3:00pm Monday, September 10, 2018 in the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church. Rev. Patty Beals officiating. Reception will follow. Interment will be in the Whitman Cemetery, Lawrencetown. Donations in Marjorie’s memory may be made to the Lawrencetown United Baptist Church.
