Marion
Skoworodko
Nov 18, 1931 – April 24, 2018
It is with the heaviest of hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother, auntie, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend Marion Skoworodko on Tuesday, April 24 at the Central Peace Health Complex surrounded by family.
She will be fondly remembered by her husband, John of 69 and a half years, daughter, Lorraine (Bob), daughter in-law Anna, grandchildren Greg (Cassandra), Mark (Leah), Carolyn (Andrew), Brent, Shannon (Noel), Brittany, Sarah, Michael, and great grandchildren Nikolas, Lauren, Andrew and Evelyn. Her memories will also be cherished by many other family members especially her niece, Terry Yanishewski who spent countless hours by her side during her hospital stay.
When God’s heavens opened, she was welcomed by those who predeceased her. Father Thomas (1958), infant son (1961), brother Tommy (1972), mother Annie (1987), son Ken (2004) and brother Willie (2016). This would have been a joyful reunion for Marion in heaven.
Marion was the first born child of Annie and Thomas Nikiforuk on the homestead in Blueberry Creek on November 18, 1931. She attended the local Blueberry Creek School with her two younger brothers and other school friends. It was this school and homestead farming community that led to friendships which Marion enjoyed and cherished all her life. It was here where she met John whom she married October 24, 1948. They established their own farm north of Rycroft where they lived until moving to Spirit River in the mid-fifties. They welcomed their son Ken in 1951 and their daughter Lorraine in 1955.
Marion loved the farm life. She raised cows, chickens and grew an enormous garden and was John’s right hand on the farm while, also, supporting his trucking business. While still attending to the farm, she was employed at Sears Order office, Canada Post and had a part ownership in the Robinsons store in Spirit River. Marion sat on town council and held various executive positions with the school, church and other community organizations such as Kinettes and Hospital Auxiliary. This showed her sincere commitment to her community.
Although proud of her children, nothing gave Marion more pleasure than spending time with her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She and John would travel miles to watch basketball, volleyball, Ukrainian dance, synchronized swimming, soccer games, hockey games and listen to violin music. She embraced every opportunity to bake, cook, sew and travel if it meant she could spend more time with her family. Her biggest pride and joy was attending the graduation ceremonies of her grandchildren as they reached accomplishments in their lives. Marion was energized by people who surrounded her, touching the hearts of every family member, old friend, and new acquaintances. Mom, your love, courage, warmth, kindness and energy will be forever cherished and missed.
Marion and her family always felt that she was treated respectfully and compassionately by every member of the medical team. We thank you for this. Donations can be made to the Central Peace Hospital Auxiliary in lieu of flowers.
