It is with heavy hearts that we the family of Marion “Minnie” Gardener (Jackson) Whittaker, wife of the late Kenneth Whittaker, announces her passing which occurred on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at the Kings Way Care Centre, surrounded by her family. Born in Lanarkshire, Scotland on February 21, 1928 she was the daughter of the late John and Beatrice (White) Jackson. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother John Jackson; sisters Jean Gooding and Beatrice Ferris; niece Margaret Keirstead; sons-in-law Burton Belyea and Carl Coggan.
Minnie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed spending summers at their cottage in Browns Cove and was always up for anything. She owned and operated Min’s Grocery in Upper Golden Grove for many years. She worked in Home Care for the Red Cross and Silver Glade Nursing Home, and also worked for Canada Post. She loved knitting, gardening and welcoming everyone to her table.
She is survived by her loving children: sons Alan Whittaker, Roy Whittaker and Ian Whittaker (Wendy); daughters Shirley McGrattan, Dianne Whittaker, Linda Belyea and Barbara Brown (Charles); brothers David Jackson and Thomas Jackson (Linda); sisters Christina Jackson and Jan Wotypka; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) on Wednesday, October 17 from 2 to 8 pm. Her funeral service will take place from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, October 18 at 11 am. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Upper Golden Grove. Remembrances in memory of Marion may be made to the Kidney Foundation, Diabetes Association, Canadian Celiac Association or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
