OBITUARY
Mario De Civita
October 31, 1937 – October 1, 2018
Mario De Civita, 80, left us unexpectedly on Monday, October 1, 2018.
He is survived by his wife, Cleta Caralla, daughter Dr. Mirella De Civita (husband Massimo Di Paola), and grand-daughter, Sarah-Nicole Di Paola. He is preceded in death by his son, Walter De Civita (R.I.P 08/10/1989) and his sister Assunta De Civita (R.I.P. 06/27/2018).
Born on October 31, 1937, he was the beloved son of Giuseppe De Civita and Rosa Cabri. He left his homeland Italy, at the age of 19, in search for a better future in Canada. He traveled our vast country, made his way to Kitimat, British Columbia, and spent a few years working in the lumber industry. It is during this time he learned how to speak English. Despite the beauty that surrounded him, he missed the Italian community and a few friends who had decided to settle in Montreal. He would go on to spend the rest of his life in Montreal, where he would experience both joy and sorrow. He had a brilliant mind, immersed in the world of natural sciences, world politics, and history. He had a gentle quiet presence, and he never hesitated to express his love and gratitude to his family and relatives. He was a devoted husband and fun-loving father. We will miss our many philosophical conversations on the purpose of life, his willingness to lean into difficult topics, and most importantly his unwavering faith in humanity. Although he lived a full life, he will be deeply missed by his family. His love will continue to shine in our hearts forever.
The family will receive your condolences on Monday, October 8th, 2018, from 2 pm to 5 pm and 7 pm to 10 pm at the Centre Funéraire Côte des Neiges, 4525, Ch. Côte des Neiges, Montréal, H3V1E7.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the SPCA would be appreciated.
