Marilyn Marie Garland
1930-2018
It is with great sadness that the family announces the death
of Marilyn Garland of Fredericton, NB on Saturday, September 22, 2018
at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. She was born
in Moncton, NB on January 2, 1930 to the late Ralph and Mary S.
(Eldridge) Morehouse and was the wife of the late Eric C.
Garland.
Marilyn grew up in Moncton where she met the love of her
life, Eric. She always had an inquisitive and
curious nature and proclaimed that she was small but mighty.
So as a brave young woman she set off to Petitcodiac, NB to begin a
teaching career. Her natural organizational gifts not only helped her
in this career but also in raising a family, travelling and moving
from time to time. Marilyn and Eric moved to Fredericton in
the 50’s and then in ’61 moved to California for
three years before returning to Fredericton, all while raising a young
family. She cared for people, the environment and our
society as a whole. She loved to travel and see the world
and was always committed to several groups being a member of: St.
Paul’s United Church, Beta Sigma Phi, the UNB Faculty
Women’s Club, the Fredericton Art Club, and book
clubs. She had a passion for books and was always a part of
the UNB Book Fair.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Stephen Garland
(Judith Mansfield) of Comox, BC and Laurinda Garland of Chatham, ON;
grandchildren, Nicholas Eric Francis and Morganna Erynn Skye Drummond
and Allison Rose and Liam John Mansfield-Garland as well as several
nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation
to all the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. Everett
Chalmers Hospital for their professionalism, kindness and
care.
There will be no visitation at Marilyn’s
request. A memorial service will be held at St.
Paul’s United Church, Fredericton, NB on Monday, October 1,
2018 at 1:00 pm. Rev. Michelle Armstrong will
officiate. A reception will follow in the Fraser Memorial
Hall at St. Paul’s. Interment will take place at a
later date in the Fair Haven Cemetery, Moncton, NB. In lieu
of flowers, memorial tributes in Marilyn’s honor may be made
to the Eric and Marilyn Garland Scholarship Fund-UNB, the United Way
or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
