Maria Francis
1949-2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Maria Elisabeth
(Luig) Francis announce her passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers
Hospital with her family and Parish Priest at her bedside, on November
26, 2018. Born on August 7, 1949 in Erwitte, Germany, she was the
daughter of the late Franz and Theresa (Mertens) Luig.
Maria was a dedicated and devoted member of St. Vincent de
Paul Catholic Church. A deeply respected member of the Roman Catholic
faith and was held in high esteem in the Catholic Parish Council.
Always involved and helping out with St. Vincent de Paul’s
CWL. Maria held the position of president for at least one term, as
well as other positions within the CWL. She was the “go to
lady” when receptions were required at the church. To no
surprise, Maria had worked several years in the food industry and for
a number of those years she was a supervisor. She also
worked as a bank teller at the TD bank which was the place that she
retired from. Another important piece of Maria’s
life was her family and she loved them all.
She will be deeply missed by her beloved husband Gerry Sr.;
children Claudia (Peter Kilfoy) and Gerry Jr. Francis; grandchild
Jarod Collins; fur baby, whom she loved like a child, Rody; sisters
and brothers-in-law Annetraud Luig, Raymond (Marie), Shirley Baird
(Bob) Garnet (Violet), John (Irene), Malcolm (Barb) and Eric Francis,
as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins from both Germany and
here in Canada.
In addition to her parents, Maria is predeceased by brothers
Franz and Albert Luig, as well as a sister-in-law Marlis
Luig.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 30, 2018 at
Oromocto Funeral Home from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm, with a tribute from the
St. Vincent de Paul CWL being held at 6:45 pm. A Mass of Christian
Burial will be held from the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on
Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 11 am with Fr. Charles Udeh officiating.
Donations in Maria’s memory may be made to
Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s
choice.
