Margaret ‘Grietje’ Heidinga
December 28, 1918 – December 21, 2018
Margaret (Grietje) Heidinga was promoted to Glory on December 21, 2018 just 7 days shy of her 100th Birthday.
Preceding her to glory was an infant son, her husband John of 58 years, daughter Shirley, 4 son in laws, her parents and all but one sibling.
She is succeeded by her daughters Jane, Elsie (Bill), Emily and Sylvia, 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.
Our Mothers’ love for life was infectious. Her faith always strong and never wavering through good or bad. Hard work, dedication, and her never quit attitude rewarded her with great joys. She was a stay at home Mom who worked harder than any woman we know. Be it milking cows, bringing in the hay, or preparing a meal from nothing for unexpected or always welcomed guests, her home was always open to everyone. She took every aspect of life in stride, learned from the experience and was ever grateful and thankful for whatever she had. In her later years she loved to travel with her family, spent winters in Florida and it wasn’t uncommon for us to see our parents driving off to another adventure in the camper. She took up sports at the Seniors Center and her competitive spirit made her a solid bowler and a great shuffle board player, she became an Honoree member of the New Horizons Seniors Center. Mom’s church life, like her family, meant every thing to her. This life became an extension of her family. She loved working the Christmas teas and she was part of the Guild. Sunday mornings found her in her favourite pew with her friends and family surrounding her while she sang her heart out and gave thanks. She loved to knit and if you went to visit her you would probably find her sitting in the corner of her living room surrounded by balls of wool and an almost complete knitted wonder for another member of her family. Her family will forever have warm hands (and hearts) with the memories and her many knitted mittens and socks.
This extraordinary woman was our mother! Although her Earthly journey has ended her loving nurturing ways will not soon be forgotten. To know her was to love her. She will forever remain in our hearts.
Funeral Services will be held at December 28, 2018 at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church – 200 5th Ave. S Kenora, Ontario with Pastor Germaine Lovelace officiating.
