We have lost one Beautiful Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Auntie, Matriarch of our families and friend to many, Margaret Erickson.
Margaret was born in the mining town of Coal Creek and raised in Fernie, BC. She came to the coast to attend nurses training at Vancouver General Hospital, where she met many of her life long friends and the love of her life, Harry Erickson. They were married in 1955 and celebrated 56 years of marriage while living in Ladysmith raising their family in the home they built.
Margaret volunteered with various organizations including; Ladysmith Hospital Auxiliary-Meals on Wheels, several yacht/ boating clubs, Girl Guides, School and the Cancer society.
Mom found enjoyment in every day. She enjoyed travel (especially bi- annual trips to Mexico & Cruises), boating (36 trips to Desolation Sound), gardening and hosting family gatherings in her home. Family was her true passion and she gave continuously of herself to all.
Right to the end Mom greeted everyone with a smile, never complained, always making the best of her situation, directing her own care and making her own decisions…once a nurse always a nurse.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband Harry (2012) and is survived by her 3 children Carol Gairns, Susan Erickson (Steve Janssen), Rob Erickson (Heather) and her 3 grand children Erik Gairns (Raya Pledge), Courtenay Gairns (Jason Brockbank), Jennika Erickson and Great Grandson Max Gairns as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and honorary grand children.
A special thanks to the staff at La Rosa and Chemainus Health Care Center for making mom’s life comfortable and enjoyable in her last few years.
If you choose, a donation can be made to a charity of your choice as mom donated to them all.
She was an inspiration and will be greatly missed.
Please join us in March 2019 for a celebration of her life well lived and all the memories you shared.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Margaret Edith Erickson December 1 1931 November 28 2018 (age 86)..
