Obituary for
Margaret Doreen Hood (Daines)
Peacefully on June 27, 2018 after a long bout with dementia. Survived by her husband of 58 years Peter Hood and their 3 children Jonathan (Nathalie Brisebois), Edward (Carol) and Caroline Denis (Roch) and her brother Alan Daines. Also by her grandchildren Olivier and Julien Denis, Victoria and Jacqui Carl. Margaret was born in London, England on July 15, 1928 to Amy Lily and William Joseph Daines who was a constable in the City of London police force and later rose in rank to become Chief Superintendent. She trained at the famous Middle Hospital in London and became a State Registered Nurse and was sub sequentially put in charge of the running of an operating theatre. She emigrated to Canada in April 1959 and was employed by the Toronto General Hospital until she married on May 7, 1960.
In July 1961, her husband began working for the Geological Survey of Canada in Ottawa. She joined the Geological Wives Association whose purpose was to arrange social activities for the wives whose husbands were in the field during the summer months. In due course she became President of that organization. She was also a pastoral care worker on behalf of Canon Calder at St. Matthews Church for many years visiting hospital patients.
Her family wishes to especially thank Dr. Mary Comerton for her first-class care over many years of Margaret and other in the family. We also thank the 8th floor health care team at the month-long period she spent in the hospital. Lastly to the various staff of the Ravines Retirement Home especially Patrick for their wonderful care oven many weeks.
