MacKINNON Roderick Roy 2018

Scotchtown
We regret to announce the passing of Roderick Roy MacKinnon at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on the evening of Wednesday, October 31st, 2018. He was 70 years old and was taken way too soon.
Roy was the son of the late Sarah (Fraser) and Roderick Rory MacKinnon of Sugarloaf, Victoria County.
Roy faced many challenges in his life but the biggest one of all was his health. He was unable to conquer these challenges and passed away peacefully on Wednesday night. He loved to tell the tall tales that his father once did, and throughout his life continue to spread the tall tales from the past.
Roy loved to listen to country music and was always willing to join in and play the spoons. He loved Waylon Jennings and named his second daughter after his famous song. He loved to hunt deer, moose and rabbits and loved to fish. He was a fisherman by trade.
Roy is survived by his daughters, Crystal MacKinnon and Amanda Doucette; grandchildren, Bryson and Addyson; sisters, Effie Detheridge, Rose Fitzgerald, Hannah MacKinnon-Fraser, Christie (Chester) Burchell and Annie Jane MacKinnon; brother, John Roy ‘Shoggy’ MacKinnon as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Roy was predeceased by his brothers, John A. MacKinnon and Wilson MacKinnon; sisters, Katie May MacKinnon, Christine ‘Tina’ MacKinnon and Dolena Brown; partner, Isabel MacNeil-Fitzgerald; brothers-in-laws, Artie Brown, Alexander Sandy MacKinnon, Bob Detheridge, Neil Fitzgerald and several siblings in infancy.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses in 4A at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, along with everyone in the An Cala Palliative Care Unit during Roy’s journey. Thank you for all your kindness and compassion. We would also like to thank everyone who took the time to visit and spend time with Roy during his time of need.
