Lyle C Ward of Edmonton Alberta

Lyle C Ward of Edmonton Alberta May 22 2018

It is with sadness we announce that Lyle passed away on May 22, while at home cooking dinner.
Lyle was born on September 10, 1924 in Riceton, Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by his beautiful wife, Muriel Eunice (Kirkland), his brother Bernard Ward and sister Yolande Giesbrecht. Lyle was raised on a farm near Aylsham, Saskatchewan by parents who were well respected in the community; known for their hard work and successful farming practice.
Lyle attended the University of Saskatchewan, graduating with a degree in civil engineering in 1946. He soon started work as park engineer in Waskesiu, where he met and married a bright and bubbly fireball named Muriel Kirkland. The trajectory of Lyle’s career took them and their growing family across Canada and back again. He was thrilled to be exposed to parts of Canada and the world that were new and interesting to him; it provided fodder for his inquisitive mind and the opportunity to absorb the scenic, cultural and historic landscape globally.
Lyle was a true gentleman, an avid reader, and a lifelong volunteer at Kiwanis and elsewhere. He was a great believer in keeping fit, and following the middle path regarding life’s pleasures. He was a humble citizen of the world and believed it was not so important to live a long life, but to live a full life. The family thanks him for being a conscientious writer, leaving ‘A Sketch of My Life’ to strengthen our memories of him.
He had many interests spanning sailing, history, politics and cribbage. The thing that defined him the most though, was golf. Lyle had an easy and natural swing, frequently scoring close to his age. Born on the same day as Arnold Palmer, he took the game of golf to a high level of focus and calm; he even used the word Zen once. He especially loved the comradery that is integral to the sport, creating a bond with a stellar group of friends, all teeing off early bird style at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club.
Lyle leaves behind his son, Kim (Brenda) of Ontario; daughter, Debra (Brian) of Calgary, and daughter, Kelly of Edmonton; grandchildren, Courtney (Bill) of Toronto, Chase (Meghan) of Cartier, Jaimie (Antonius) and Jesse (Lauren) both of Edmonton, Milan of Ottawa and Elizabeth of Edmonton. He is grandfather to four great grandchildren and a fifth on the way.
He will be deeply missed by his family and remembered by all who had the good fortune to know him.
In lieu of flowers and in the generous spirit of Lyle, please perform an act of kindness for someone.
A Memorial Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 4th, 2018 at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011-114 Street, Edmonton, AB.
