CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF LYDIA KOLOMEJEC (nee HAUPT) March 31, 1919 – December 12, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Lydia Kolomejec announces her passing on December 12, 2018 at the age of 99 years. Lydia is lovingly remembered by her daughter Olga Sommerey and her 3 grandchildren: Roy Sommerey (Marnie Whidden), Glenn Zuniki and Teresa Sommerey (Neil Weber). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and extended relatives from Europe to Australia and precious friends, all who she considered family and who miss her terribly.
Lydia was a trailblazer and made her way through life on her own terms and was very proud to become a Canadian Citizen. She very much enjoyed working at the University of Alberta cooking for the students, staff and visiting dignitaries. On more than one occasion, she cooked for and met with Royalty. She always treasured the opportunity to cook for others, help in meal preparations for many gatherings and lend a hand on the farms. From Lydia’s Edmonton home, she raised her daughter, helped with the grandchildren, was a strong ally and family supporter for many in need. Her generosity and hard work was always appreciated and will be dearly missed and stand as a great example of her generation’s spirit.
Lydia moved to Kelowna, BC, in 2003 to live closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She lived independently at Mountainview Village until he 99th year of life. The celebration of Lydia’s life and burial is on Friday, December 21st, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., at Glenwood Funeral Home, 52356 Range Rd. 232, Sherwood Park, AB. Family, relatives and friends may pay their respects with viewing one hour before the service.
