Obituary Overview
Celebrating the Life of
Louise passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018.
She was predeceased by her husband Hugh; mother Carrie; father John; and brother Jack.
She is survived by her children Lynn (Tim) Jansen, Andrew (Dawn) and Vincent, Bonnie (Christian) Haus, Arie and Summer, Dean (Heather), Christine; Sharon (Brian) Perkins, Jenna (Dorian), Madelyn, Kallum (Keith) and Landon; Doug (Lois) McGillivray, Catherine (Carlos), Scott (Vanessa), Megan and Michael; Janice (Todd) Brunas, Carter and Hayden; Colleen King, Jocelyn, Adam and Rachel, and special Aunt Miriam.
Louise was born in the Regina General Hospital on April 21, 1932, one day after her husband Hugh. Mom and dad were both delivered by Dr. Hugh McClean and although they occupied the same nursery, they did not meet again until 20 years later at a hockey game ‘blind date’ in Indian Head.
Following elementary school at Davin and Connaught, Louise attended high school at Central Collegiate. She studied one year of Arts and Science at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon before completing Business School and working at the Saskatchewan Labor Pool Office in Regina.
Mom maintained life-long connections with her many elementary and Angus Crescent area friends. Her most recent phone conversation with a school friend in Ontario occurred just last week!
Mom and dad were married in 1954 and experienced a poor crop year that was affected by excessive rain and consequent rust. They moved to Regina the following winter where they both worked to offset the lack of farm income. However, a return to the farm in the spring of 1955 began a 50 year stay in the Gray area.
Mom raised a family of five beginning in 1957 and culminating in 1988 with the 5th high school graduation. She maintained an avid interest in her childrens’ and grandchildrens’ activities.
She also extended her love of shopping to each of her descendants. Mom had the knack of choosing the perfect cards, birthday and Christmas gifts for each of her children, daughter- and sons-in-law, 17 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In fact, dad often said that during their winter ‘times’ in Mesa the car had been mapped to travel to the shopping malls all on its own.
She enjoyed evening walks in the country, crop tours and watching and reporting farm-related weather to all involved. She spent many hours tending her flower gardens at the farm and Pasqua Lake summer cottage.
Mom was a master at organizing details and communications for family dinners and celebrations.
She was an active member of Eastern Star and President of the Gray United Church Women. Upon mom and dad’s move to Marion Park in Regina, they engaged in ‘Happy Hour’ and dinners with many condominium friends.
Mom was a dedicated caregiver to dad during his journey with Parkinson’s disease and visited him every day during his three year stay in long term care. She continued to enjoy visits with family and friends at her College Park suite where she often employed humour and sage advice in conversation.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at College Park and Unit 3E at the Regina General Hospital.
A CELEBRATION OF LOUISE’S LIFE will be held at the Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4001 East Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
Donations in memory of Louise may be made to the Gray United Church, Box 35, Gray, SK S0G 2A0 or the Parkinson’s Society of Saskatchewan, 610 Duchess Street, Saskatoon, SK S7K 0R1.
