Louis Anselm LeBlanc
February 4, 1935 – November 25, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce that Louis Anselm LeBlanc passed away peacefully on November 25th. Louis is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marie Marguerite Charlotte (Boucher) and children, Bernie (Petra); France (Stanley Jacot); Linda (Neville Connolly); Celine (Wade Erickson), his loving grandchildren Noah, Greg, Josef and Haley Connolly; Brett, Claire and Anna Jacot; Petra and Jacob LeBlanc, as well as many nieces and nephews. Louis is also survived by his brother Joe (Thelma) and sister Zoe (Wayne Shinners) Phillips.
Louis was the 10th of 11 children of the late Arsene and Rosanne (Cormier) LeBlanc, and was predeceased by his sisters Lucie-Marie (Infant), Annie Rose, Lucie-Mae, Julia, Marie-Louise, Theresa and brothers Francis and Levi. Born February 4, 1935, he grew up in Margaree, Nova Scotia and attended St. Francis Xavier University and Dalhousie University, where he graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree. A long career in the electrical utility business followed, with jobs at Hydro Quebec and Nova Scotia Power before retiring in 1992.
Louis was a devoted and caring family man, always taking care of their needs and generously giving his time, skills and wisdom. As a long-time parishioner at St. Ignatius, he led by Christ’s example within his family and the community, instilling a sense of faith, kindness, loyalty and fairness to all who met him. One of Louis’ passions was forestry, and he improved the forest environment through his active participation in silviculture. Following retirement,
Louis became an accomplished wood-turner, with his work featured in several art galleries across North America.
For decades, Louis and his family enjoyed staying at their cottage in Pomquet, Nova Scotia, where he could most often be found tending to his woodlots and ever fertile garden.
Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax on Thursday Nov 29, from 6-8pm. Funeral Mass will be officiated by Father Decoste at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 5 Bedford Street, Bedford on Friday Nov 30 at 2:00pm.
A special thank you to the caring staff at Arborstone Enhanced Care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following organizations close to Louis’ heart: The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NS); Arborstone Enhanced Care 3rd Floor; or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
