Obituary of Lorraine Perdue
At age 86, Lorraine Perdue succumbed to the progressive and terminal disease of dementia, on August 6, 2018 at the QE II hospital in the comfort and presence of her family.
Lorraine is survived by her two children, Donlea (Gerald), and Marten (Leona), her grandchildren Ryan, Kendra, Julie, Curtis, Joshua (Ingrid), Andre (Julia), her great grandchildren Jessie, Matthew, Serenity, Jean-Luca, Samual, Josie, and her brother Dennis.
She is predeceased by her parents Bob and Josie Cook, her sister Doreen, sister Donna, brother Robert and her husband of 64 years, Fred.
Lorraine was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta on October18, 1931. Her parents relocated to Beaverlodge, AB where she grew up and attended school. She and Fred met at a high school dance, fell in love and where married in Grande Prairie on August 29,1953.
Their first home together was a small house in Dawson Creek, B.C. They had no running water, no inside toilet, and a hole in the ground to keep food cold, but they were young and in love.
Lorraine worked as a secretary for an insurance adjusting firm in Dawson Creek until the birth of their first child, Donlea. Shortly after they relocated to Ft. St. John B.C where their second child Marten was born. They called this place home for approximately 11 years. Fred’s career led them to Abbotsford B.C, Nanaimo B.C, and Edmonton AB. Throughout those years Lorraine was a fulltime homemaker.
Lorraine and Fred’s final move was to Grande Prairie, AB in 1970 where Lorraine once again took a clerical job in an insurance agency. She eventually started doing product demos and promotions, which led to her taking on the role of recruiter and coordination for the demo agency. Lorraine enjoyed this challenge and loved the interaction with all the people she met.
Lorraine and Fred kept socially active volunteering for the SPCA, Seniors Centre, Royal Canadian Legion, and the Red Cross.
Lorraine took pride in keeping her home meticulously clean and orderly while still warm and inviting. She enjoyed welcoming visitors into her home and delighted in preparing a home cooked meal for family and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Pope for his support, thoughtfulness, and the years of care he provided for both mom and dad. Thanks also to the nurses and staff working at the QE II 3 North. They treated mom not only with kindness, but with respect and dignity.
There will be no formal funeral service at Lorraine’s request. Condolences may be sent to the family through Bear Creek Funeral Home.
