In Loving Memory Of
Lester Glenn Howell
It is with great sadness that the family of Lester Howell announces his passing on Friday, June 1, 2018, at Points West Hospice, after a long battle with cancer.
Lester was born in Templeman, NL to Kenneth and Doris Howell on August 20, 1931. Les always thought of Newfoundland as home. He married Hannah Jane Butt in 1959 and their love for each other was true love. Jane and Les raised their family in Schefferville, QC, a community where they still maintain loving ties. Jane and Les moved to Grande Prairie in 1988 to be closer to their grandchildren. Les passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving wife and daughter.
Les is survived by his loving wife Jane, and their three children: Paul (Marie Helene), Ken, and Joanne (Jeff Foster). Les “Poppy” is also survived by his loving grandchildren, who meant the world to him and Nanny. Poppy will be sorely missed by Joanne’s daughter, Allyson Foster whom he called “Poppy’s Girl”; Ken’s children: Brandon (Samantha Melnyk) and their son Eli, Joanna and Casey Kataquapit (Cyrena Erven) along with their mom Brenda Kataquapit; and Paul’s sons: Adam, Liam, and Doug (Brittany) Howell, along with their mom, Denice Klavano. Lester also had many family and friends who loved him dearly.
Pop was predeceased by his beloved grandson Brad Howell, in 2006.
Nan and Pop were the best – if you tried to custom order the best grandparents, you could not have done better than Nan and Pop. From being spoiled with treats right before dinner, to sleepovers, to unconditional love – they were always there.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at 11:00am at the Salvation Army Community Church in Grande Prairie (9525 83 Ave) with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wounded Warriors Canada in memory of Brad Howell (#1900, 1500 West Georgia St., Vancouver, BC, V6G 2Z6) or the Salvation Army Community Church (9525 83 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 6V1).
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Points West Hospice who took care of Pop his final days.
Poppy, we will miss you. Good night m’love…
