Leona Pearl Pye
1939-2018
Leona Pearl Pye – 78, Upper Brookside. It
is with great sadness we announce the passing of Leona Pye at
Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, on Tuesday, August 14,
2018. Born at the family farm in Upper Brookside, she was a
daughter of the late Rayburn and Helen (Langille)
Staples.
Deeply devoted to her family and an avid gardener,
Leona’s happiest moments were spent either in her gardens or
with her grandchildren, of whom she was extremely
proud.
Leona is survived by her husband of 61 years, Burton,
daughters, Lynn, Heather (Sandy McLane), Kelly (John
MacDonald); grandchildren, Patrick, Holly, Sarah-Jean, Samuel,
Michael, Katherine; great grandchildren, Julie, Chesley, Wyatt;
sister, Etta Dewar (whose support through Mom’s illness we
appreciated more than words can say); sisters-in-law, Carole Pye and
Gillian Pye.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers,
Rufus Staples, Murray Staples, Dexter Staples; brothers-in-law, Carson
Dewar, Bill (Isabel) Pye, Ralph Pye, Milton Pye; sister-in-law, Verna
(Jack) Chiasson.
Special thanks to Home Support Workers Melissa, Trina,
Shannon, Pam, Rene, Nancy, Christine and Mandy, whose compassionate
care allowed Mom to remain in her home; Lisa Weatherbee, Palliative
Consult Nurse, whose weekly visits brought a smile to Mom’s
face, Becky Langille, Rachel MacDonald, Dr. Don Rowe, Dr. Gary
Altenkirk, Dr. David Henderson, Dr. Cortney Smith and the entire
Palliative Care Team at Colchester East Hants Health Centre,
especially Danielle, Janet, Kendal, Mary Jane and Anne whose kindness
will forever be remembered.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Leona’s
family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, August 16, 2018,
and funeral service 11 a.m., Friday, August 17, 2018, Reverend Valerie
Kingsbury officiating. Interment in Crossroads Cemetery, 110 Salmon
River Road, Valley. If so desired, donations in Leona’s
memory Colchester East Hants Hospice Society or Palliative Care Unit
