Leon Lewis Johnson passed peacefully February 7, 2018 with his family by his side.
Leon was born the second youngest son of Olaf and Gerda Johnson on August 12, 1948.
Leon attended rural school Brand and then onto Kelvington. In school Leon enjoyed playing softball and football.
After school Leon worked odd jobs in the oilfield and trucking industry.
Leon met the love of his life Georgina in 1967 and they were married in Wadena in 1972. Leon and Georgina moved to Leduc Alberta after getting married. It was in Leduc where Leon pursued a career in Auto Mechanics and attended NAIT College receiving his journeyman papers in 1979. Leon and Georgina started their family in Leduc having their first son Rory in 1976 followed up by Chris in 1978.
Leon’s entrepreneurial spirit brought them home to Saskatchewan in 1980 where they purchased a service station at the corner of 35 and 49 hwy. Leon enjoyed his days at the service station tackling any project that was brought into the shop. Leon was happy to be able to raise his family where he grew up close to family and friends. Leon continued working as a mechanic until taking on a retirement job working maintenance at the Wadena Hospital.
Leon enjoyed golfing, fishing, and bowling in his spare time. Leon was an avid bowler and president of the 5 Pin Bowling Association for many years. Leon’s true passion was his love for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, whether watching the game at home or sitting beside Georgina in their seats at Mosaic, if the riders won it was a good week. Leon always enjoyed cooking especially sitting outside in the summer having a beer and using his BBQ or Smoker. Leon’s fondest memories were of sitting on the deck visiting with friends and family. Leon especially loved spending time with his grandson Zack.
Leon was a kind gentle man with an incredible sense of humor. Over the past three years when faced with adversity his optimism and positive outlook was a true source of inspiration for friends and family.
Leon is survived by his wife Georgina, son Rory (Janelle) & Grandson Zack of Martensville, Son Christopher (Cindy) of Martensville, Brother Raymond (Doris) of Hendon, Brother Jack (Marilyn) of Leduc, Sisters Betty and Jean of Calgary, Sister in-laws – Irma of Kelvington, Rosanne of P.E.I., Wanda of Camrose and Gae of Leduc, numerous nieces & nephews, Mike Chodak and family and close friend Delbert of Wadena.
