Leon was born on November 3, 1941 in a midwife’s home near Edberg, Alberta. He was raised on the family farm south of Edberg. He met his wife Carol in 1961 and they married a year later, on August 3 in Duhamel. They purchased a farm in the Whitebrush area east of Bashaw. Together they raised their children Sherry, Kathy and Roger.
Leon’s family came first, and he was also a farmer through and through; but, in his spare time he enjoyed many leisure activities such as amateur radio, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, motorcycling, flying and tinkering. Over the years Leon and Carol enjoyed many adventures during their travels to Mexico and other destinations.
Left to celebrate his life are his wife of 56 years, Carol; three children, Sherry (Alan) Krause, Kathy (Pud) Stevenson and Roger (Felicia) Young; seven grandchildren, Megan (Dan), Ty (Michelle), Alex (Tanner), Wyatte (Regan), Katelyn, Garrett, and Kristen; one great grandchild, Scarlett; five brothers and sisters, Viola, Clarence (Brenda), Melvin (Jean), Betty, Norman (Lisa); numerous nieces, nephews and an abundance of other relatives and close friends.
Leon was predeceased by his infant son, Timothy; parents Axel and Lydia and sister Linda, and his half-brother Gunner.
Leon recently stated, “I’ve been so lucky. I was able to spend my life doing my dream job…farming.”
