Leon Chester (Jack) Huckins
1935-2018
Mr. Leon Chester (Jack) Huckins of North Head, Grand Manan,
NB, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, on
December 30, 2018.
Jack was born in Lubec, ME, to the late Clyne and Elizabeth
(Linton) Huckins; he started his fishing career at age 14, working on
a herring carrier; he worked at a lobster pound; drove school bus for
12 years; and was the wholesale bread deliverer to Grand Manan stores
for 22 years until his retirement, most important of all, he was a
loving husband and best friend to his wife Nellie for over 62 years.
Never apart, they spent their summers on Wood Island, doing
renovations and project to their camp.
Jack is survived by his wife Nellie (Guptill) Huckins, of
North Head, daughters Jacqueline Brenton (Roger) of Comfort
Cove, NL, Joan Ingalls (Russel) of Grand Harbour, son Alan Huckins
(Jodi) of North Head, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren,
one great- great granddaughter, and many nieces and
nephews.
Jack is predeceased by his parents, sisters Lois McDowell,
Phoebe Foster, Phyllis Smith; one brother Theodore
Huckins.
There will be a farewell in Jack’s memory
(Date and time to be announced) at St.
Paul’s Hall, Grand Harbour, and at a later time, a private
grave side service on Wood Island.
Donations in memory of Jack could be made to The
Grand Manan Hospital Foundation, Charlotte County Cancer Society, or
to the donor’s choice.
