Leno (Lino) Florindo Zecchel
February 2nd, 1930 – December 8th, 2018
Leno Zecchel, born in New Westminster, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 8th (2 months shy of his 89th birthday) after a battle with cancer. He is predeceased by his parents Nino and Lena and brother Roy, and is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doreen; children Larry (Paula), Steven, Michael (Leesa), David (Maria) and Marie (Brian); and 14 beloved grandchildren. Leno was a 24-year survivor of prostate cancer and was an active member of Surrey’s Prostate Cancer Support Group, the largest in BC, serving as chairperson for 12 years. A grant in his name was recently awarded to help fund research for a cure for prostate cancer.
He was an extraordinary husband, Dad, Grandpa and friend and will be dearly missed by all those who had the privilege to know him. Thank you to the staff at Surrey Memorial Hospital and Laurel Place Hospice for their exceptional care.
A Celebration of Life for Leno will be held at 1pm on Thursday, December 20th at First Memorial Funeral Services Fraser Heights Chapel, 14835 Fraser Hwy in Surrey. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Prostate Cancer Research Foundation BC.
