LeMert Leslie Carey
1935-2018
It is with great sadness to announce the passing of LeMert
Leslie Carey, 83 of Coldbrook, Kings County, NS. LeMert passed away
peacefully in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville with his loving
wife at his side on Sunday, December 30, 2018. LeMert was born on
December 1, 1935 in Avonport, he was a son of the late Leslie Dean
Carey and Marion Benita (Lockhart) Carey. LeMert attended schools in
Avonport and Hantsport. He worked in the Masonry Trade for 52 years,
working in all the Maritime Provinces as well as Newfoundland,
Vermont, USA, and British Columbia, retiring when he was 73. LeMert
was a Gentle Gentleman inspiring other with his love of life, courage
and strength of faith. LeMert was a member of the Avonport Baptist
Church, where he served and a Deacon for 16 years. Although his work
took him away from home, his priorities were his family and home. The
loss of two sons was devastating to the family but Faith helped with
healing and being able to live a full life making great memories. He
took pride in and enjoyed renovating his home and improving his
property in Avonport. LeMert enjoyed sports, having played Hockey for
both Hantsport High School and the Wolfville Falcons. He enjoyed
family camping, travelling and gardening, in his later years he liked
to watch sports on TV. He also enjoyed following the Blue Jays and
having many discussions about the ups and downs of the team with
whomever he came in contact with. He enjoyed reading and curling,
always looking forward to going to Summerside with his curling team in
February. Moving to Coldbrook in 2013 he became part of a new
community and made many new caring friends. Suffering a stroke in 2015
he had great determination to improve his health and ability with a
great attitude, enjoying each and every day. In addition to his
parents, he was predeceased by two sons, Carson Lea and Randall
Bradford; sisters, Benita Rogers (Dick), Joyce (Len), and Anna. He is
survived by his wife, Donna (Rathbone); a daughter, Michelle (Jim)
Wile; granddaughter, Victoria (the light of his life); siblings, Enid
Fung (Bob), Fran (Linda), Sandi (Tom) and brother-in-law, George
Warwick. A celebration of LeMert’s life will be held this
coming summer 2019. We would like to thank NS Health facilities for
their care throughout LeMert’s healing journey over the past
three years including the hospitals, Rehab, doctors, nurses and the
VON. Donations in memory may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation,
the VON, Avonport Baptist Church, or a charity of one’s
