Obituary of Lawrence (Larry) Keyes
KEYES, Lawrence Michael (Larry)
Peacefully, at Emmanuel House, with his family by his side, on Sunday, February 4, 2018 in his 59th year. Lovingly remembered by his wife Laura and “bite-mate” Kismet. Will be missed by his “favourite” brother-in-law Ross Roach and his daughter Erin. He will be reunited with his parents Lucy and Michael Keyes, brother Jerome and sister Liz (Copland). Survived by his sister Catherine Keyes and nieces Mandy, Candace and Heather. Will also be missed by his aunts Lillian, Anna, Barb, as well as his extended family and special friends Christine and Bernie, Helen and Sam, Kate and Fred, Marie, Lorrainne, and lifelong friends Janet and John. Larry was a referee with OMHA for 18 years, and a scuba instructor at Mohawk College for more than 15 years, where everyone will remember him as “Shakey”. Despite being less active in later years, Larry found new friends and enjoyment through his love of carving at Sackville Seniors’ Centre. We will always owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. R. Duke and Larry’s “A-Team” of doctors, especially Dr. Clive Davis, Dr. W. Oczkowski, Dr. A. Mulji, and Dr. E. Carlisle. The family would also like to thank all the special people who were there to help during the last lap of his life, especially Bill Vickers, Maryann Virag, Julia Appleton as well as nurses Falan and Sharon. We are also thankful for the hands-on care from the wonderful staff from CBI, especially Galaxie and Nina, and to Maggie Martin and the staff of Emmanuel House. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from 5-8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Eugene’s Parish on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Emmanuel House, Good Shepherd or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
