Laurie Maurice Aalders
1939-2018
Laurie Maurice Aalders – 78, of South
Alton, Kings County, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2018 in the
Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, he
was a son of the late Clinton and Emeline (Russell) Aalders. He had
been employed as a plumber with T.P Calkin and United Trades and then
was self employed until he retired. Laurie enjoyed attending jam
sessions throughout the Annapolis Valley and was well-known for his
talent on the fiddle. He is survived by his wife, Joan (Wood)
(Barteaux); a daughter, Elaine (Barry) Mahaney, Prospect; a son,
Laurie “Bill” (Gayle) Aalders; South Alton;
grandchildren, Vanessa Boylan, Rachel Aalders, Rebecca Mahaney and
Evan Mahaney; great grandchildren, Aidan and Easton; step-children,
Jeff (Tina) Barteaux, Berwick; Sandra (Ken) Trafton, Kentville; Kim
(Ralph) Campbell, Kentville; Jane (Bruce) Thomas, Greenwood and Peter
Barteaux, Grande Prairie, AB; several step-grandchildren and
step-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was the last
surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his
first wife, Lila (Medicraft); two sons, Dale and Leonard; two sisters,
Onabelle Doyle and Verna Smith; four brothers, Bernard, Foster, Eugene
and Oren. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by
request. A private family graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m.
Thursday, February 22, 2018 in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill.
Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice. The
family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Valley
Regional Hospital, as well as the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of
Nurses for their kindness, care and compassion. Funeral arrangements
have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation
Services, Kentville.
