Larry R. Pilon passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, with his family around him.
Larry was born on September 27, 1952, to Fred and Hilda Pilon, in the rural French community of St. Laurent, Saskatchewan. He attended the one room schoolhouse there as a young boy, later attending school in St. Louis, Saskatchewan. Even in school he demonstrated the leadership and people skills that served him so well throughout his life. As a young man he started out in social work, but soon discovered his real forte in professional sales. Larry was an award-winning salesman in the home building materials and then the paper industries, and most recently in commercial real estate. His colleagues admired him for his integrity and consideration in business, always putting the clients’ interests first.
As a young man, he had a love for athletics. Larry had a passion for fastball, which finally gave way to his lifelong love of golf. It was this love and talent at golf that he passed along to his sons and even his grandchildren. At the same time, Larry developed a keen interest and involvement in community service, in particular with the United Commercial Travelers of America, a fraternal organization. He served at the local council level, the Canadian regional level, and at the International level. He was elected International President in 2012, a one-year term, the accomplishment he was most proud of.
Larry was a man of many talents, from building several homes for his family, to cooking, and being a wonderful host. He had a great sense of humour, loved to laugh and enjoy life to its fullest, and was very social. He stayed true to his values throughout his life, loving friends and family above all. Larry was predeceased by two young brothers, Sydney and Clarence, and his father, Fred. Left to grieve and miss him is his wife of 45 years, Carol (nee Neudorf); two sons, Nathan, Melissa and three grandchildren, Caleb, Remy, and Élisse, and Matthew and Courtney, all of Calgary; his Mother, Hilda and Ed Baran of Saskatoon; siblings Adrien (AJ ) and Teresa Pilon, Mel and Wayne Guenther, Noel and Susan Pilon, Simone and Terry Lightbody, and Armand and Ann Pilon; his large Neudorf family; aunts and uncles; many, many nephews and nieces; and long time, close friends.

Death notice for the town of: Calgary, Province: Alberta
Dear Carol and Family,
What a shock to hear of Larry’s passing in the UCT Newsletter. We are all so very saddened by this news and send our thoughts and prayers to you in this time of mourning. Our family met Larry and his family through UCT many, many years ago and thought of him as a friend, son, and brother. Dad, Stan Holder, held Larry in the highest regard and would have been so proud of his accomplishments in his roll at UCT and in his life. There is just too much to say about our fond memories of Larry and all the great times we spent together with him. He will be greatly missed and remembered with smiles forever.
