Obituary for
Klemens Weber
WEBER, Klemens
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Klemens Weber who took his last breath on May 28, 2018. He was 86. Klemens was born in Vienna in 1931 to parents Josephine and Hans, a high school principal who later refused to tow the party line and was persecuted and demoted by the Nazis. After the war he attended the Francisco Josephinum Agricultural College in rural Austria with the dream of owning his own farm, a passion that prompted him in 1955 to leave his family and beloved Carinthian alps and emigrate to Canada. Arriving virtually penniless in Montreal, he worked at a myriad of jobs for over a decade and scraped together enough money to buy a rough 330-acre spread in Quebec’s Eastern Townships, his ‘Windfall Farm’. He weathered the ups and downs of farming life, losing a herd to disease and a barn to arson, but eventually did realize his dream of owning and running a successful dairy farm. Klemens was immensely resourceful and a great problem solver. He remained forever curious and interested in politics and current affairs. He enjoyed engaging his children and grandchildren in heated discussions and challenging their views and opinions. He kept busy with his garden was into his 80s, still mowing the lawn and tending his flowers while tethered to his oxygen. We are so glad that he found happiness in his later years with his best friend Heather. He was predeceased by his siblings Hannes, Hilda, Bruno and Hermann. He is missed by his sister Elizabeth, his children Gabriele Thomas (Tony Glen) of Chesterville, Ontario, Andreas Thomas (Rachel Freudenburg) of Boston, MA, his grandchildren Miranda Glen of London, UK, Tristan Glen (Avalon Moore) of Halifax, NS, Franziska Glen, and Alice Thomas (Andre Stevens-Rosa) of Madrid, Spain and his great-grandchild Arlo Stevens-Rosa Thomas and his numerous nieces and nephews in Austria and Germany, his partner Heather Tobiasen’s extensive family, neighbours and friends far and near. The funeral service will take place on Friday, June 8, 2018 at our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church in Ingleside at 11am and will be followed by a reception in the church hall. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be made at www.brownleefuneralhomes.com.
