Kenneth Munroe Hankinson

PROMINENT WEYMOUTH BUSINESSMAN PASSES – Hankinson, Kenneth Munroe – age 97, Weymouth, Digby Co. passed away February 8, 2018. Born in 1920, he was the youngest son of the late George O. and Ella Maude Hankinson, of Weymouth. Ken attended Weymouth Academy and Modern School of Business, Saint John, NB. Throughout his career he had hauled lumber for his father and started his sales career selling piglets from his bicycle as a teenager. He worked at the Royal Bank and had been a salesman for MacDonald Motors before KC Irving took him under his wing and started him in business in 1945, (Weymouth Motors) which lasted for 65 years. Ken was a Councilor for the Village of Weymouth and became a Village Commissioner, becoming instrumental in getting the sidewalks installed in Weymouth. Ken was member of the Riverside Baptist Church, Weymouth North and worked on the cemetery committee for several years. His hobbies included snowmobiling, hunting, antique cars, and travelling to Hershey Pa. for antique car shows. He was a member of the Roaring Twenties Antique Car Club and the Antique Car Club of America. Ken was also a member of the Tuscan Lodge #111 Weymouth, where he received his 65 year pin as a Mason. He leaves to mourn his children, Pat, Ottawa; Owen (Sharron), Ed (Diane) both of Weymouth; his grandchildren, Scott Teed, Alanna Lacroix, Adam, Stephen, Melissa, Matthew, Patrick, Erika, Jody, Lanny and Kyle Hankinson also his 15 great-grandchildren. Ken was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor (Wallis); brothers, Scott, Tom, George, Curtis and sisters, Esther, Grace, Margaret and Klara. Special thanks to Dr. Don Westby, Dr. Bander and Dr. Broderic for his care over the years and his caregivers, Teresa, Leanne, Gladys, Catherine and Sue. Funeral service will 2:30pm Tuesday, February 13th from the Ashmore Baptist Church with Rev.Donald Moses, who welcomed him into the church, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Baptist Cemetery, Weymouth North. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ken’s memory can be made to the Riverside Baptist Cemetery Society.
