Kenneth Elden Richardson
Kenneth Elden Richardson passed away on
Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the Veterans’ Health Centre,
Moncton, New Brunswick. The youngest son of Albert and Hattie (Killam)
Richardson. He was born January 10, 1921 in Humphrey’s
Mills, NB and attended Humphrey’s School and Moncton High
School before commencing work with the Canadian National Railways in
1939. Ken joined the Canadian Army in 1942 and trained in Fredericton,
NB and Debert, NS; Berryfield and London, ON, before going overseas in
1944. After landing in Scotland, he trained in London before
proceeding to Europe, where he served in France, Belgium, Holland and
Germany as a A.F.V. Fitter with the 5th
Division Armoured Brigade. Returning from Holland in March of 1946, he
resumed his employment with the CNR and worked throughout the
positions of Trackman, Section Foreman, Snowplow and Extra Gang
Foreman, Road Masters Assistant and finally Road Master at Moncton, at
Sackville and on Prince Edward Island. He was Supervisor of
Maintenance for the Moncton Subdivision when he retired in 1981. Ken
was a member of curling clubs in Sackville, NB, Charlottetown, PEI
(Belvedere) and Moncton
(Beaver).
In February 1999, Ken was predeceased
by his wife of 56 years, Kelsie Jean (Berry) and in October 2014,
daughter, Norma Duplain, Fredericton,
NB.
Ken is survived by his sister, Lillian
Murray; son, Ivan Richardson (Sheila) of Dartmouth, NS; son-in-law,
Richard Duplain of Fredericton and grandchildren, Scott (Kelly) of
Ottawa, Andrew (Alyson) of Whitehorse; Sarah Duplain of Moncton,
Elizabeth Duplain of Vancouver and Samuel (Amanda) Duplain of
Fredericton; great grandchildren, Ian and Meredith Richardson of
Ottawa; and Hugh and twins, Wilfred and Harriett of Whitehorse and
several special nieces and
nephews.
In earlier years, he was predeceased by
brother, John (Myrtle) Richardson; sister, Bessie (Harold) Chase;
brothers-in-law, Johnny Murray, Austin (Verna) Berry, Allison (Helen)
Berry and Karl (Ruth) Berry and sisters-in-law, Odessa Berry and Doris
(Richard) Clark.
Ken enjoyed working on home projects,
especially for family members and friends. If you could repair
something or design a replacement, there was no need to buy new.
Summers were spent at the family cottage at Caissie Cape. In recent
years, he was active in the Legion and a member of RCEME and CNR
Pensioners Association.
The family would like to express their
gratitude to Gaetano, the nurses, caregivers and volunteers at the
Veterans’ Health Centre for making his time there since
September 2014 pleasant.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations
may be made to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital, the Lewisville
Baptist Church or a charity of your
choice.
Visitation will take place at Fergusons
Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Friday, May
11, 2018 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, with a Moncton Legion Branch #6
Veterans’ Service at 6:45 pm. The funeral, led by Rev.
Gordon MacLeod, will be held at the same location on Saturday, May 12
at 2:00 pm. Reception to follow. Interment will take place at Fair
Haven Memorial Gardens on the Salisbury
