IRELAND, Kenneth A.H.
At age 87, after a brave battle over the summer, Ken passed away peacefully in his home where he raised his family and tended his gardens.
After a fulfilling life working at Dehavilland and Stackpole, riding and social clubs, travel adventures, ballroom dancing and flowers, he has gone to join his beloved wife and dance partner Verena who passed away suddenly in 2009. Daughters Karen (Thom Rennie) and Debra (Bill Clarke) were blessed to be able to spend many of last few weeks in his company providing care and comfort that flowed both ways. Grandad will be missed dearly by Kyle, Samantha, Hunter and Cody. Many a ravine path and sandy beach were walked with these four over the years. Dad is survived by many close neighbours and dance friends that kept his life full. Too many to name, but we must at least recognize Wally Reed who dad shared dance and travel adventures with during retirement. Friends and family merge as Ken is survived by his closest friend for over 50 years, “Uncle” Dave Stone. He also leaves behind his wife’s dearest friend and “sister-in-law” Hilary (Stan) Lucy and nieces Terry (Jeff) and Trish (Wayne). A little farther afield, Ken was pre-deceased sister Shirley Neve, but will be missed by niece Claire Gray, and nephews William and Roy Matthews, as well as Northern Gateshead cousins from the Garnett family, Carol, Karl (daughter Pheonix), Vivien and Verena. “Kenny” will be remembered by the R.A.E. gang. Such a solid group of friends since the 50’s at Farnborough Tech. College. A heart-felt thank you to the Amos family whose grand-mother Miki showed my dad that happiness was possible again, if only for a brief time. The family would like to extend the opportunity for friends to celebrate and reflect on Ken’s life on Sunday October 14, 2018 at McDougall & Brown Funeral Home, Scarborough, with visitation at 11am, a Memorial Service at noon, and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Heart and Stroke would be appreciated. And a personal request, take the time with your family to tell them stories and fond memories of your life and how they might have included your dear friend Kenneth.
