Obituary for
Keith Greig
It is with deepest sadness that we announce the death of Keith Robert Greig, 72, at his home in Burlington, Ontario. He died on Tuesday, August 7 with his family at his side, after a brave fight with cancer. He leaves behind his best friend and constant companion of 49 years, Margaret Greig (nee Tichbourne). He is survived by a set of strong sons; Bryan, Andrew and his wife Liza (nee Pilapil), Peter and his wife Virginia (nee Larson) and two adoring grandchildren Charlotte and Jimmy Greig.
Keith arrived by boat from England after World War II had come to a close. His parents led a simple life. Keith would grow up understanding that basic was best, as they lived in a 8×20 foot trailer for most of his youth. Keith was a truck driver and drove almost every type of rig that existed. Together with his wife Margaret, they operated Vanguard Cartage, their own trucking business based in Oakville for 20 years. If you ask his grandkids, Grandpa’s best job was when he drove a cupcake delivery truck. You can only the imagine the kids on birthdays, waiting for the cupcakes to arrive.
Keith was practical and to the point. A strong-willed, straight-forward, no-nonsense type of guy, Keith was also fair-minded in his dealings with everyone. Keith loved fishing, playing cards, winning at poker and a good action movie. He would never say no to a solid space adventure either. He belonged to the Trafalgar Masonic Lodge and was the Worshipful Master in 1994.
Keith didn’t like or want a fuss and he would barely accept a thank you. Even on his deathbed, he didn’t want people making a stink about his comfort. He told us that if people wanted to share a story or a laugh with a glass of scotch in hand, that’s how he wanted to be remembered.
A Service of Remembrance will take place at Smith’s funeral home (1167 Guelph Line, Burlington, ON) on Monday, August 13 at 7 p.m. A memorial wake will be held at later date in October 2018. If so desired, the family would appreciate donations to the charity of one’s choice.
